our story.
Christina:
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I spent a lot of time at home, especially with my mom. God opened up conversations between us that involved our spirituality and I was able to see how the Lord was working in my mother by having her open up about her broken past. Throughout that season, I also praying and asking God how He was moving in my own life. Later that year, I caught up with Sharon through a video call when she told me that she contacted Esmeralda, our partnered missionary, and heard about what her ministry was going through. We remembered her testimony of building a home to foster girls that grew out of the orphanages, and a deep desire to help Esmeralda support the girls took root in our hearts. My prayers were answered as God revealed how He moved in my live so intentionally that lead me to start this organization to help children in the foster system by loving them just as He loves my mother who went through the same experience.
Sharon:
Ever since I came back from my first mission trip with GMMA in 2019, God gave me the heart to serve the communities in Tijuana, Mexico. He told me that He would bring me back to these wonderful people I connected with. I met Esmeralda, our missionary, and was moved by her heartfelt testimony. She has committed and surrendered her life to becoming a mother figure for the foster children. The love and heart she has to serve our Father inspired me and moved me. All throughout 2020, including the 6 months, I was in Korea, God has been speaking to me tremendously. One of which was to start Through Love. with one of my mission sisters, Christina. Ultimately, I want to share God’s love and grow with the children He has graciously allowed me to meet. It has been a joy serving in this organization and I am excited to see how God will grow us individually and as Through Love.
Wing:
God truly led me to TL by his sovereign plan because I don’t use Facebook that often but in the summer of 2021, I was randomly scrolling and came across a post on this pretty inactive FB group called pRaise Him Higher and saw Sharon, whom I recognized was a high school classmate 4 years ago. I was intrigued to know more about her heart for TL and so decided to go on their June mission trip. And through that experience of meeting the foster girls we are serving, hearing their stories, getting to know the missionary Esmeralda and building relationships with the members of the TL team, I felt God encouraging me to be involved and find ways to grow this organization. To add to how unexpected yet perfect God’s timing is, I felt called to serve right when I was just starting my first job post-grad as an accountant and felt emptiness for working at an office job and pursuing a career I had no passion for. But God was telling me, “Wing, I guided you to choose the accounting route because I know you can use these skills to serve me.” And so here I am serving TL as a financial director! These past months, I learned so much from each and every single person I was able to get connected with because of TL. While balancing a full-time job, some weeks are more challenging but I receive so much joy and love through serving and growing closer to God not just as a team, but as a family. And knowing that no matter what season we are going through in our lives, our hearts are united for one mission: which is to share the love of Christ to those around us, and wherever He decides to take us! Am so excited about what God has in store for TL!!
Stephen:
I felt God calling me to serve Through Love. after I went on a trip with the organization. Placing faces to names and hearing their testimonies softened my heart and compelled me to develop a heart to serve these girls. Serving with Through Love. has been very rewarding. They have accepted me with open arms, we have shared laughs and tears, but most of all, seeing them grow closer to God every time we meet has been one of the greatest joys in my life!
Semi:
After meeting the girls in Tijuana and hearing their experiences, my heart to serve these girls grew. It amazed me how strong and resilient they are. It was evident how God was moving in their lives, allowing me to learn and reflect on my own relationship with God.
